Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Former NFL Lineman Paul Frase to Utilize Video Conferencing to Speak about Son’s Rare Muscular Disorder to Families Worldwide

Glowpoint, Inc. (OTCBB: GLOW), a leading provider of advanced video communication solutions, today announced it has partnered with TalkPoint and AVI-SPL to capture and broadcast via the web former NFL Lineman Paul Frase’s speech about his son’s rare muscular disorder to a global community of affected families on July 24, 2009, at 6 p.m. CDT. Frase will be one of several speakers at the first-ever MTM-CNM Family Conference in Houston, Texas to address the rare medical condition known as Myotublar Myopathy and Centronuclear Myopathy. He will speak remotely via video conferencing, with the entire conference captured and webcast for live, public viewing during the event, and the webcast will be viewable for 90 days.

Frase, a former NY Jets defensive lineman, is no stranger to setbacks. While in his third pro-season with the NY Jets, he was diagnosed with Graves disease, a weakening condition that causes severe weight loss. Frase refused to stay on the sidelines, and his teammates honored him with the Ed Block Courage Award for his eventual comeback. When asked who taught him the most about courage, he said, “my son.” Frase would later play for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Green Bay Packers, and Baltimore Ravens. Paul and his wife, Alison, will both appear at the MTM-CNM Family Conference due to their work with the Joshua Frase Foundation to support ongoing medical research for myotubular myopathy and other related congenital myopathies.

The entire three-day event, presented by the MTM-CNM Family Conference Planning Team at the Houston Marriott at Bush Airport, 18700 John F. Kennedy Boulevard, will feature educational presentations on medical advancements for myotubular myopathy and centronuclear myopathy. Due to the challenge of travel for affected families, Glowpoint, AVI-SPL, and TalkPoint will unite Frase, doctors, and other speakers, with affected families for the entire conference through the use of interactive video communications at http://cc.talkpoint.com/demos/mtm.html.

Glowpoint president and co-CEO Joe Laezza said, “We are honored to have been chosen to help affected families worldwide. I have personally witnessed the enormous challenges that such myopathies pose, since my nephew, Steven G. Pepi, was born with a rare muscular disorder. He can’t travel because he lives on a ventilator. It is applications such as this that demonstrate the value video communications offers to the medical field, especially in regards to sharing information on medical advancements globally.”

Interested families should contact Connie Guinn, event coordinator, at kookla_g@yahoo.com or (281) 997-3581 for more details.

For media interviews with Paul Frase and his wife Alison, or with other affected families, please contact Christopher Welch, Glowpoint’s corporate communications manager, at cwelch@glowpoint or (312) 235-3888, ext. 2017.
