Did Apple Steal iTunes Interface?

Lawsuit Filed by Contois Music Technology

A Vermont company has filed a federal lawsuit in its home state against Apple Computer, alleging patent infringement related to the iTunes interface.

The plaintiff is Contois Music Technology, a small company headquartered in Essex Junction, VT and headed by Dave Contois. the company, which bills itself as a "family business since 1971," demonstrated its music-playing software 10 years ago at Comdex Las Vegas, and today offers a variety of products at its emusicgear.com website.

The Contois lawsuite says it patented its interface in 1999. Apple rolled out its iTunes last year and has generated tremendous favorable publicity, revenue, and profits from its overall music strategy, which includes the iTunes music store and iPod downloading and playing device.
