Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. FlightWorks Soars Into Cloud Financials With Intacct
Aviation Services Leader Selects Intacct to Improve Financial Reporting, Increase Efficiency and Lower Total Cost of Ownership

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/27/09 -- Intacct, a leader in cloud financial management and accounting applications, today announced that FlightWorks has selected Intacct as its new financial management system. Intacct will help FlightWorks improve its financial reporting processes, increase employee efficiency, contain capital spending and ascend to new levels of profitability by modernizing its financial applications and making the move to cloud computing.

FlightWorks, based outside Atlanta, provides executive charter services, aircraft management programs and aviation consulting. The company's finance team was struggling with large numbers of financial processes that required manual intervention such as exporting data into Excel spreadsheets. This led to inconsistencies and reduced employee efficiency. As FlightWorks expanded, it quickly realized it needed to replace its existing financial management system. The company considered all options in the market, including both on-premises and Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, before landing on three finalists: Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics GP and Sage MAS 90.

"We were looking for a financial system that would provide us with the best solution to improve our reporting processes and increase our employee efficiency, and Intacct was a perfect fit," said Bill Lewis, CFO of FlightWorks. "We liked that Intacct's SaaS applications wouldn't require us to purchase hardware and software or upgrade the technology we are currently using -- providing a significant cost savings versus the software packages from Microsoft and Sage that we looked at. In addition, we felt that the implementation time for the other systems would be much longer and require significantly higher consulting expenses and it was clear that our ongoing operating costs would be far lower with Intacct."

Intacct will provide FlightWorks with a modern financial management system that delivers anytime access to the financial data needed to effectively run the business. For example, FlightWorks manages private jets that are owned by other companies or individuals. The ability to quickly and accurately communicate financial results to each of these aircraft owners is critical. Intacct will enable FlightWorks to easily create dashboards that provide a visual snapshot of this information. Aircraft owners can view the dashboards anytime, from anywhere over the Internet, and then drill down into the underlying data to better understand and analyze the information before making critical decisions.

"We were impressed with the capabilities of the Intacct dashboards and the potential for utilizing these within our business," commented Lewis. "We really like that Intacct will eliminate the workarounds we currently have to do with our existing solution to properly report and analyze our financials."

FlightWorks will take advantage of Intacct's advanced multi-entity capabilities to manage the financials for both its main operations near Atlanta, as well as its subsidiary, Mountain Aviation, based in Denver. Intacct lets companies run their business entities separately and then easily roll-up and view consolidated financial information -- without having to run multiple instances of software or switch between applications. FlightWorks also plans to extend the value of Intacct by using Intacct's open web services to integrate the system with several other critical business applications, such as its flight operation systems (FOS), aircraft technical maintenance system (EBis) and payroll provider (Fidelity).
