Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

InterSystems and InsiTech Swing Into Java Web Apps
Offer Developers RAD, Rich Thin-Client Web Systems

InterSystems Corporation today announced an agreement with InsiTech, Inc. that supports rapid delivery of high performance, thin-client, rich Internet applications for Java software developers. The announcement was made at the 2005 JavaOne Conference in San Francisco.

InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database and Ensemble universal integration platform worldwide. Cheshire, Conn.-based InsiTech provides XTT–Smart Web Clients for Java tools for Java developers worldwide. InterSystems will collaborate with InsiTech on initiatives that enable Java developers to offer top-tier rich Web applications targeted for multiple markets. InsiTech has become a member of InterSystems’ CACHÉ Technology Partners program.

The agreement provides a basis for technology sharing and software support between InterSystems and InsiTech. “We are leveraging the product strengths of CACHÉ and XTT to effectively change the Java development paradigm,” said Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning. “InsiTech’s innovative approach to simplifying the complexity of building Java applications complements InterSystems’ commitment to enabling rapid application development and deployment,” he continued. “The synergy between CACHÉ objects and the XTT Java construction framework enables developers to take advantage of the advanced object technology and RAD features of CACHÉ and XTT’s pure Java, standards-based, GUI platform to rapidly build rich, thin-client Web applications.”

XTT is a pure Java, standards-based GUI construction environment that automates development of thin-client Rich Internet Applications without the need for proprietary plug-ins or downloads. “Any Java control can be extended through our technology…an open approach that fits well with the open design of CACHÉ,” said Jim Villano, InsiTech Co-founder and COO. “In addition, CACHÉ offers proven robustness, speed and a unified data architecture that eliminates any requirement for object-relational mapping. Those capabilities are extremely attractive to progressive Java developers who want to take advantage of XTT to deliver the benefits of a traditional client/server LAN solution over the Internet.”

Currently building a Java-based asset management system for a major telecommunications firm, Richard Conway, CEO of eGrok, Inc. in Miami, a technology consulting firm, is well positioned to comment on the synergy between CACHÉ and XTT. “The XTT product provides the enhanced interface and RAD features that are absolutely essential for creating rich, smart Internet applications,” he said. “And, the sophisticated Java support, high performance and easy manageability provided by CACHÉ are the perfect complement. The combination of XTT and CACHÉ is ideal for any Java developer who wants to rapidly create and deliver rich, Web-based applications.”
