Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Enomaly Offers Web Hosts Turnkey Cloud App Storefront
App Center, a service provider can publish pre-built cloud applications directly to customers

Enomaly has announced plans to offer cloud service providers and web hosts a path to increased revenue by offering a turnkey cloud app store platform. The enhanced offering is part of Enomaly's Elastic Computing platform a private cloud  computing product aimed at enterprises, carriers and hosting providers, that want to benefit from the power, flexibility, and economies of cloud computing.

The App Center enables service providers the ability to quickly monitize their cloud and hosting environments by publish pre-built cloud applications directly to customers, either for free or with an additional cost. Cloud customers can directly provision VMs on the cloud from a library of pre-existing virtual application images through an easy to use web dashboard.

Enomaly's Cloud Service Provider edition extends our core ECP platform, already used by 15000 organizations around the world, with the key capabilities needed by xSPs, carriers, and hosting providers who want to offer an Infrastructure-on-demand or IaaS service to their customers. The product provides not only a REST API , but also a simple, easy-to-use customer self-service interface, theme engine, integrated load monitoring with trigger-based auto-scaling, a hard quota system, and flexible integration with your billing, provisioning, and monitoring systems.

According to a recent article in business week the opportunities for cloud application marketplaces could be potentially tremendous. Since the Apple's App Store debut, users of Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch have downloaded more than 60 million applications, sampling the more than 3,000 games, calendars, and productivity applications for as much as $10 - $20 each. A good portion of these applications are available at no charge and are monetized via advertising. Most of the applications available are provided via a burgeoning ecosystem of third party developers. What's more the iPhone app sales averaged $1 million a day in the first month with Apple taking 30% of each sale. In a matter of months, the iPhone App store has created a billion dollar marketplace.
