Wipro Leader Heads to VC Company
Built Indian Company to $1.4 Billion Revenue Giant
Jul. 1, 2005 11:00 AM
Vivek Paul has announced that he will be leaving his post as Wipro CEO to join the world of venture capital. Paul, a U.S. citizen, built the Bangalore, India-based Wipro into a major software developer with $1.4 billion in revenue in recent years, moving it into a Big Three group of Indian companies that also includes Tata and InfoSys. He will be joining the venture
capital firm Texas Pacific Group.
Paul sold much of his stake in Wipro last year, leading to speculation since that time that he would be seeking some other post in the industry. He had worked at Bain Consulting, Pepsico and General
Electric before joining Wipro in 1999.
Texas Pacific Group specializes in technology and life sciences,
working with its Asian affiliate, Newbridge Capital, the Fort
Worth-based firm said in a statement. Paul will remain in the Silicon Valley area, and work out of the company's Bay Area offices.
