Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Vector Marketing Canada Makes Dream Come True for Children's Wish Recipient

CALGARY, AB -- (Marketwire) -- 08/24/09 -- Vector Marketing Canada, the Canadian sales division of Cutco Cutlery Corporation, the largest manufacturer of high-end kitchen cutlery in North America, recently raised $15,785 for the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. The money was raised from commissions earned by the sales of cutlery in Vector's "Pacific Coast" and "Can Rock" Divisions, which encompass British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Vector Marketing Canada donated the money to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada to support the wish of a four-year-old boy named Naythaniel, who lives in Edmonton. Just months before Naythaniel's third birthday, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

During Naythaniel's many hospital visits and intense chemotherapy treatments, he watched one movie over and over -- "Camp Rock." The Jonas Brothers quickly became Naythaniel's favorite group and played an important role in helping him get through the difficult treatments.

When Naythaniel's mom, Jacqueline, told him that he was going to be granted a wish from the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, he knew exactly what he wanted -- to meet the Jonas Brothers and see them perform live in Edmonton.

In July, thanks to the efforts of Vector Marketing Canada's Pacific Coast and Can Rock Divisions, Naythaniel's wish came true. He and his mom were picked up at their house in a Cadillac Escalade and driven to the arena where the Jonas Brothers were performing. Naythaniel's dreams became reality as he watched the concert and met Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas.

"After the concert, Naythaniel couldn't stop talking about the Jonas Brothers and singing their songs," said his Mom. "This will be a memory neither of us will ever forget."

"Everyone in Vector's Pacific Coast and Can Rock divisions worked very hard to make Naythaniel's wish come true," said Angiel Macdougall, Division manager of both territories. "Naythaniel's story touched all of our hearts, and we wanted to make sure that this deserving little boy had his wish fulfilled. We are so happy that he got to meet the Jonas Brothers and watch them perform in concert."

In recognition of its ongoing contributions to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Vector Marketing Canada was recently presented with the Canadian Direct Seller's Association's 2009 Make a Difference Award.

The award is the result of a partnership between Vector Marketing Canada and the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, where Dr. Derek Hassay developed the "Selling Smiles 101" program to provide his students with real-world sales experience. The product of this unique partnership not only enables students to apply classroom concepts to the real world by selling Cutco, it also gives them the opportunity to fundraise for the Children's Wish Foundation.

Since the Selling Smiles program began 4 years ago, Vector Marketing Canada and Professor Derek Hassay's students have raised more than $100,000 for the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.
