Seeks to Gain Control of Ad Syndication Method

News of Google’s application for "incorporating targeted ads into information in a syndicated, e.g., RSS, presentation format in an automated manner," has sent a new wave of anxiety through a technology industry that has seen many such broad claims by various companies over the years. Google’s application, filed quietly on New Year’s Eve 2003, would grant it exclusive rights to an ad delivery method planned to be in common use by many companies today. "(If approved), it would really stifle competition," said Forrester
analyst Charlene Li in response to the news. "It would be a pretty
