Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. BEA Extends Its "Infrastructure Software" Offerings; Ships AquaLogic Service Bus
Aimed at Helping With Successful Deployment of SOA in Business Environments

Designed to converge the integration capabilities of an Enterprise Service Bus with operational service management in a single software product, BEA this week announced the general availability of the BEA AquaLogic Service Bus 2.0 product, a key part of BEA's market-leading "Service Infrastructure" product family.

BEA AquaLogic Service Bus is designed to offer what BEA describes as "intelligent messaging, routing and transformation that can support heterogeneous end-points, combined with capabilities for service registration, monitoring and lifecycle management."

It can deliver dynamic routing, protocol brokering and transformation, through a meta-data driven configuration environment that the company contends will help accommodate change "by removing the management of services from the service end-points themselves, thus creating an agile SOA infrastructure that can be responsive to changing business needs."

AquaLogic beta customer Jeff Davies, director of architecture and standards at Covad Corporation, agrees, saying that v2.0 "can help enable our IT groups to successfully manage routing relationships, transformations and policies by incorporating innovative changes due to the convergence between Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and web services."

"As businesses strive to be agile," said Rob Levy, BEA's executive vice president, new products strategy (pictured), "they depend on IT's ability to deliver new services in alignment with business needs. They require an intelligent service infrastructure platform that can help drive reliable integration across an inherently heterogeneous, multi-vendor computing landscape, and can help make enterprise-level service re-use a reality."

"BEA AquaLogic Service Bus is designed to help provide that single foundation for integration and lifecycle management of services across the SOA," Levy continued.

The AquaLogic product family is designed by BEA to address the entire service lifecycle and manage a fully-deployed SOA across multiple technologies or application platforms whether they are based on Java or .NET.
