2009 Canadian Renewable Fuel Pioneers Honoured

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/02/09 -- The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association is pleased to announce the 2009 Green Fuels Award Recipients. The awards honour pioneers in the development and commercialization of low carbon renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel in Canada. The awards were presented at the 6th Annual Canadian Renewable Fuels summit in Vancouver. Awards announced today were: The New Producer Award 2009 North West Bio-Energy started producing ethanol at the farmer owned 25 million litre North West Terminal in Saskatchewan. The plant will also produce 71 tonnes of distillers grain for feed per day. Bio-Diesel Quebec Inc. started producing biodiesel in their 10 million litre a year facility in St-Alexis-des-Monts, Quebec. Milligan Bio-Tech Inc. started producing canola bio-diesel at their 25 million litre a year facility in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. The Fuel Change Award 2009 For Achievement in Promoting the Use of Renewable Fuels in Canada Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is a leader in the commercialization and use of biodiesel in Canada. Maple Leaf's Rothsay biodiesel subsidiary is producing biodiesel by converting animal fats and recycled cooking oil into a "green" alternative fuel that, reduces harmful greenhouse gases, and can be used in all diesel engines today. The Green Fuels Industry Award 2009 For Outstanding Dedication to the Advancement of Renewable Fuels in Canada Mark Stumborg - An engineer at Agriculture Canada's Swift Current Research Centre played a critical leadership role in formative years of ethanol and biodiesel in Canada.
