Open Source and Cloud Computing on Ulitzer Funambol, a provider of open source mobile cloud sync and push email for billions of phones, today introduced a major new version of its software. Funambol 8.5 propels the company's open source mobile cloud platform into important new directions by syncing diverse mobile data, rich media and messaging on billions of phones and PCs. The company is also unveiling its new "build once, deploy everywhere" framework that enables developers to use familiar web 2.0 technology to create one version of a web app that runs on mobile devices with a rich UI, offline storage and social capabilities. This provides several advantages: fast time to market, easy development and native look-and-feel. "The mobile cloud is red hot, as device makers, operators and internet companies rush to provide the best mobile cloud sync and push messaging experience," said Fabrizio Capobianco, Funambol CEO. "At the same time, open source is a mobile game-changer, as it provides ultimate flexibility and control. We are excited to help companies provide innovative mobile cloud sync and push messaging services by extending our open source platform for rich media and social networks. Companies will also benefit by being able to rapidly create rich mobile web apps for scores of devices more easily." SOA World Latest Stories
