Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Fastsubmit.org About to Release Its "Closed Directory" Project
Expected to Take the Industry by Storm, Says CEO

Fastsubmit.org is about to release a "closed directory" project that is expected to take the web industry by storm: the new directory project is the first of its kind, the company's CEO Steven Vetter told SEO/SEM Journal (http://search.sys-con.com), in that it is based on a business's "real" existence.

Vetter's Georgia-based marketing and web technology firm has taken a different approach to marketing its website submission services.

"For many years now, the industry of submitting to search engines has gone to the wolves with thousands and thousands of small businesses and individuals making huge claims that just weren’t true and in many cases, a complete lie," Vetter said.

Fast submit.org, he explained, figured they would try a little different approach: "Tell the truth and expose the industry for its downfalls."

At first this didn’t sound like a very appealing idea to many of the company’s employees, said Vetter. "The concern of course being that if you sell the steak and not the sizzle, no one will buy it. But I really didn’t care. This division is not a big profit producer for us and simply allows us to cover some of our overhead for the infrastructure of our total company."

What happened when Fast submit.org launched its new philosophy on the web was that business shot up immediately.

Vetter recalls:

“The week that we launched the way of doing business, our sales tripled. Even I didn’t expect this to happen. I expected that our sales would maintain or drop slightly, but apparently the weary public was just ready for something like this.”
Vetter's new directory project is the first of its kind in that it is based on a business’s “real” existence. Vetter said that he came up with the idea 2 years ago when searching for products and services. The problem he ran into is that he never knew if the business really existed or if it was a scammer sitting in a café running a virtual business.

The premiss is that consumers and businesses will not only be able to search the web on the site, but then have the ability to see “verified businesses” that provide the same service or product. Each business in the closed directory has been verified by an employee of the company and this gives the consumer a comfort level to know that it is not just “Joe Hacker” waiting to take their money. Even more impressive is that the directory does not allow pornography, MLM’s, FFA sites or any company practicing spam.
