Industry News Desk Cloud Expo Sponsor OpSource Helps European Companies to Comply
SaaS Solution Built on OpSource On-Demand Helps Companies Reap the Benefits of New e-Customs Process

OpSource Session at Cloud Expo OpSource, SaaS hosting and enterprise cloud company, and Irish declaration customs management software developer ABM Data Systems have teamed together to help companies easily fulfill new excise goods movement requirements for European companies. The combination of CustomsWare's enterprise-class customs declaration management and OpSource On-Demand's powerful, SAS-70 Type II audited infrastructure provides both manufacturing and logistics service businesses with a flexible, secure and cost-effective solution for their customs declaration management needs.
On April 1, 2010, the EU will introduce the EMCS (Excise Movement and Control System). An integral part of the EU's e-Customs project, EMCS is a distributed, electronic system for monitoring movements of duty-suspended excise goods within the EU. The introduction of EMCS is a major development for those who trade in excisable commodities, including manufacturing businesses that use industrial alcohol, distributors of wine and other alcohol products, and storage and distribution of energy products. These companies are expected to benefit from a reduced administrative burden and faster discharge of movement guarantees but to do so they must quickly implement an entirely new system. "The EMCS will be great for long-term business, but hard for companies to quickly adopt," said Tony O'Grady, business development director, ABM Data Systems. "By building our solution on OpSource On-Demand, we are bringing companies of all sizes an easy and affordable way to comply and start reaping benefits today. OpSource On-Demand is not only highly reliable, with its 100 percent uptime guarantee, but also easy to use and highly secure, which is also important when dealing with sensitive customs information." In order to achieve the promised benefits of EMCS, businesses need the software tools to process the necessary electronic EMCS messages. As many businesses with an EMCS compliance requirement have modest transactional volumes, companies want a solution that is running only when they need it -- and at a reasonable cost. Available as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product built on OpSource On-Demand, CustomsWare provides all the functionality required to fully satisfy the EMCS compliance requirements of primary import/export businesses and logistics service providers without the need for capital investment in software licenses or infrastructure. A standard web browser is all that is required to create, clear, print and manage EMCS and all supported customs declaration types through a single, consistent user interface. "CustomsWare is a perfect example of how building a Software-as-a-Service application can remove major roadblocks for companies, turning compliance headaches into potential financial upside," said Treb Ryan, CEO, OpSource. "We are pleased to work with ABM Data Systems to help EU countries make the most of this new electronic customs system." About OpSource On-Demand Technical Operations
