IBM AlphaWorks Releases RIB 1.2
Version 1.2 Includes Four Eclipse Plug-Ins that Fully Integrate RIB into the Eclipse Environment.

IBM AlphaWorks has released version 1.2 of RIB (Reflexive User Interface Builder). Version 1.2 includes four Eclipse plug-ins that fully integrate RIB into the Eclipse environment. RIB also has introduced aspect-oriented programming techniques in order to automatically and non-invasively validate Java GUI-based applications, including JVM-based executables such as the Eclipse workbench itself.

The IBM Reflexive User Interface Builder (RIB) is an application that constructs and renders graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for Java Swing and Eclipse Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT) based upon a descriptive XML document. RIB is both a specification for a mark-up language in which to describe GUIs and an engine for creating (and, if desired, rendering) them. This application can be used as a stand-alone application for testing and evaluating basic GUI layout and functionality, or it can be used as a library within the context of a Java application for creating and rendering GUIs for that application.

This technology runs on Java 1.4.2 and above and Eclipse 3.0.2 and above. Due to a dependency on a Windows DLL, RIB currently supports only Windows NT and Windows XP.

RIB is part of the Emerging Technologies Toolkit (ETTK), a special collection of emerging technologies from IBM's software development and research labs.
