Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. British Airways Deploys Wily Introscope With BEA WebLogic For BA.com
To Manage Ticket Bookings, Flight Information and Customer Service

British AirwaysWily Technology has announced that British Airways (BA) has deployed Wily's flagship Introscope product to manage the performance of mission-critical software applications on the BA.com website, one of BA's key revenue generation, customer service and business assets.

Introscope has been implemented to deliver real-time application monitoring and analysis so any degradation in application performance can be quickly identified and resolved to avoid losses of revenue and service. BA.com uses BEA's WebLogic platform to support its J2EE applications responsible for critical customer service and business functions on the website.

Peter Roberts, BA's eBusiness Technical Manager, said: "BA.com is a critical part of BA's business model, representing a significant and growing part of our revenues and customer service. We realized that as we expanded and evolved the website, we needed to have an application management solution that could operate in a live production environment. This is essential to ensure the high levels of functionality and performance that our customers demand."

As BA.com continues to expand its services, the need for software applications to meet the increasing demands placed upon them will be a critical success factor for the site. "The use of Introscope means that we can recognize and deal with application performance issues far more quickly," Roberts continued. "We can now focus our attention on helping BA.com evolve to meet the demands being placed upon it by the BA business."

"The value of the BA.com site to British Airways overall highlights the reliance businesses are placing on software applications to drive a significant portion of revenue," said Matt Price, European director of marketing and alliances for Wily Technology. "Application performance management solutions from Wily can help global organizations like BA minimize the risk of downtime and ensure their mission-critical applications are reliable and high-performing 24x7."

I recently booked flight tickets via ba.com and should say it was a piece of cake. So easy to use.
