Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

JBoss Shuffles Management Team Hires New VP of Engineering
"New appointments bolster operations and product development," says JBoss press release

JBoss, Inc. announced the expansion of its executive management team to boost operations and development for a rapidly growing Fortune 500 customer base, while maintaining its edge as one of the most innovative technology companies today.

With triple-digit growth in 2005, JBoss is enhancing its management team to support continued gains in market share and enterprise adoption of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS) in the coming year. The new executive appointments are:

Rob Bearden, vice president of sales and marketing, has been promoted to the position of chief operating officer, with responsibility for those organizations as well as service delivery and operations. Since joining JBoss in June 2004, the former Oracle and i2 Technologies executive has been instrumental in building the company's sales and marketing groups. Under his leadership, JBoss consistently met revenue goals quarter over quarter and laid the foundation for the company's vibrant partner ecosystem.

Scott Stark, co-founder and chief technology officer, becomes vice president of technology and architecture and will focus on evolving the JEMS architecture and optimizing integration for customers. Stark first began contributing to the JBoss open source project in 2000 and later joined Marc Fleury in 2001 to start the services, training and consulting business around JBoss Application Server (AS). Stark's technical leadership propelled JBoss AS into the most widely used app server on the market and the first open source app server to achieve J2EE certification. As CTO, he also oversaw JBoss' expansion into middleware that included the addition of Hibernate, JBoss jBPM, JBoss Portal and, most recently, JBoss Rules.

Sacha Labourey, general manager of JBoss Europe and board director, will assume the role of CTO. This move returns the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology graduate back to the technology side of the JBoss business, where he will oversee technology strategy for building out JEMS in the market-leading open source platform for service-oriented architectures. Labourey, one of JBoss' first employees, has spent the last three years growing the JBoss Europe organization, bringing on solutions partners and driving sales in the region, including the French Inland Revenue Service, which is one of the company's largest deals to date. He also led the acquisition of the Arjuna Transaction Server and web services implementations from Arjuna Technologies and HP.

Andy Miller, formerly vice president of technical architecture at Corporate Express, joins JBoss as vice president of engineering and will manage the company's expanding number of open source projects and development talent. Miller brings 20 years of experience and extensive, hands-on technical expertise working with open source and JBoss technologies. At Corporate Express, Miller led the company's initiative to move its information systems to open source to drive down costs, including the strategic decision to make JBoss AS the platform for corporate applications such as e-commerce, logistics and accounts receivable.

Ben Sabrin has been promoted to vice president of end user sales for the Americas. As the first JBoss employee, Sabrin has held many responsibilities, including sales, training and marketing, crucial to advancing JBoss to its position today. In his new role, Sabrin oversees sales and field operations, working closely with the direct sales team to meet customer requirements for JBoss services.

"JBoss closed out 2005 in a stronger position than ever. We exceeded our sales goals, expanded our operations and delivered many industry firsts in the technology arena," said Marc Fleury, chairman and CEO, JBoss, Inc. "These new appointments in the JBoss management team reflect our tremendous growth and momentum and will provide a solid foundation for scaling the entire JBoss organization to continue delivering the highest level of support services and the most innovative technologies to our customers. Scott, Sacha, Ben and Rob have been key players in JBoss' phenomenal growth and we look forward to having Andy join our team."
