litl_phil wrote: While it's nice that Google and Acer share the vision of cloud-based computing, it's also worth noting that we at litl already have a webbook on the market (available at litl.com) that runs our own cloud-based OS. Unlike Chrome, litlOS is focused on creating a new and better web experience for the home, so we don't have the usual browser interface, we have our own innovative UI. In conjunction with easel mode (litl's inverted-V position) and our growing cohort of litl channels (special apps t...

Versora and CodeWeavers Announce Linux Desktop Migration and Productivity Bundle
Solution Automates Data, System and Application Settings for Migration from Windows to Linux

Versora and CodeWeavers have announced the availability of "The Linux Desktop Migration and Productivity Bundle". The bundled software package includes Versora's Progression Desktop which automates the migration of data, application and system settings from Windows desktops to Linux as well as CrossOver Office Standard 5.0 that allows applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop to run on Linux.

"A bundled migration tool that includes the ability to run Microsoft Office productivity apps on Linux makes sense for individuals and organizations who want to move off Windows to Linux, but have concerns about a rip and replace scenario," said Versora CEO Mike Sheffey. "You can now migrate all desktop data and settings from Windows to Linux while using the same Windows applications you've relied on in the past."

Reports indicate that a key barrier to Linux desktop adoption revolves around the reluctance to move off the familiar Windows desktop environment and its applications to a Linux platform.

"In the near term, people will be more apt to try Linux if they don't have to sacrifice productivity," said Jeremy White, CodeWeavers CEO. "The cost and security benefits of Linux may ring true, but in the mind of the end-user they are not more important than the familiarity and comfort of using the Windows desktop. With sophisticated migration and productivity tools such as Progression Desktop and CrossOver Office, we think we've provided a solution to the pain point associated with moving to the Linux desktop."

"The Linux Desktop Migration and Productivity Bundle" is available for electronic download at http://www.versora.com for $49 per license.
