Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Backup Express YES! Certified for SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, Novell Linux Server
First Solution to Offer Data Protection for Clustered OES Environments

Syncsort has announced that Backup Express, its data protection product, has been YES! Certified with Novell SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9, Service Pack 1 and Open Enterprise Server (OES) Linux. Backup Express was the first solution to offer data protection for clustered OES environments and continues to provide the most reliable Linux support in the data protection market, supporting Novell customers with more backup and recovery features for SLES and OES than any other software vendor. Backup Express includes protection for NSS (Novell Storage Services) volumes and properties on OES and SLES9 systems, and allows users to backup data on NetWare today, and restore it to OES LINUX after they migrate.

Backup Express has unique, strong support for all of Novell's products, and the two companies are working together to create the next generation of integrated storage solutions. Novell's OES is the first product to integrate the choice and flexibility of open source software with the power and reliability of proven networking software, combining NetWare, the trusted leader for secure networking services, and SUSE LINUX, a leading open platform for delivering business-level applications. Novell Cluster Services and Business Continuity Clustering for OES are evidence of Novell's continued commitment to offer high availability services.

Syncsort will display its commitment to Novell customers with a demonstration of mixed OES and Linux backup and recovery at the Novell BrainShare conference, March 19-22 in Salt Lake City, UT.

YES certification testing ensures that Novell customers can easily identify and purchase third-party hardware and software products that are proven to be compatible with the Novell product lines, including both SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and NetWare. The YES mark is a valuable trademark of Novell, and recognized around the world as the mark of a specific product's compatibility with Novell products.

"Continuing our ongoing collaboration with Novell, Syncsort is pleased that Backup Express has been YES! Certified on the latest releases of OES and SUSE LINUX," said Dan Regan, Senior Vice President, Syncsort. "Novell incorporates the best from open source and enterprise networking applications and makes Linux deployments accommodating and responsive to business changes, while ensuring that services are always up and running."
