In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Project Management Software Project Insight Chosen by Flare Industries
Pollution Control Case Study

Since 1984, Flare Industries has been an industry leader, providing quality flare systems, thermal oxidizers and ignition systems that help to control pollution. The innovative equipment the company manufactures provides optimum performance in meeting local environmental regulations or protecting a company's plant operations. Project Insight (www.projectinsight.net), online project management software, supports Flare Industries' Project Controls Manager in implementing the design and production of the company's equipment.

Challenges
Flare Industries' project management team consists of over 30 resources that work on approximately 80 active projects at any given time. Before, team members were working on their own schedules and managing their own functional areas individually, leaving the Project Controls Manager with zero visibility. Prior to using Project Insight, the project team relied on a linear program rather than a deliberate solution that would integrate and unify the company's processes.

Solution
A couple project managers are Project Management Professional (PMI) certified, so it was important to find a solution which was compliant with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The Project Controls Manager and the project managers looked for a solution that would:

  • Provide a single, integrated project management software that gives visibility to all stakeholders into how all team resources are managing their tasks
  • Give managers individual access and control of their projects
  • Deliver data for analysis, performance measurement and reports

Results
Following the close evaluation of several different project management solutions to unify the company's processes and provide visibility, Flare Industries signed on with Project Insight. The Project Controls Manager says, "Prior to using Project Insight, there was a strictly linear process, where each project was handled by one person, and nobody else had input into this system or any access into the data. There was no analysis or measurement available." With the help of Project Insight's ability to capture information and display in reports, tracking performance is now possible.

About Project Insight
Project Insight, web-based project management software , is powerful for project managers, easy for everyone. Project Insight offers three editions for flexible, scalable project management, hosted Workgroup, Professional and Enterprise. An on-premise option is available with the Enterprise edition. Project Insight supports Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari browsers. Microsoft Outlook Connector, Office Connector add-ons and a mobile interface are offered.

Project Insight project management software supports The Project Management Institute, Inc.'s (PMI©) standards, and is compliant with the PMBOK® Guide. Project Insight and Metafuse are registered trademarks of Metafuse, Inc.
