Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

BlueDragon, BEA WebLogic Edition Becomes Generally Available
Extend Legacy Applications to Run on BEA WebLogic Server

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BEA Systems, Inc. , a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the availability of BlueDragon, BEA WebLogic(R) Edition. BlueDragon is designed to help enable customers to modernize and extend legacy ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML) applications to run on BEA WebLogic Server, which can thereby allow companies to reuse existing technology to help meet evolving business needs.

With BlueDragon, developers can redeploy legacy code onto WebLogic without having to commit to costly rewrites, thus helping to increase efficiency, lower costs and can lead to a higher return on investment (ROI).

"Several of our customers are still using CFML to run their businesses. Today's BlueDragon announcement is further proof of BEA's commitment to helping customers improve application performance and leverage their existing IT assets in service-oriented environments," said Wai Wong, executive vice president of products, BEA Systems. "It's also another example of how the company is continuing to invest in WebLogic Server and find new ways to help customers get to a modern app server without a lot of pain."

BEA is licensing the BlueDragon software from New Atlanta, a leading provider of server-side technologies. The solution is tuned for BEA WebLogic and is designed to allow customers to unlock and extend their legacy applications to new platforms and accelerate the delivery of service-oriented architectures (SOAs), helping to make the free flow of information, processes and services across the business possible. Providing the ability to run legacy applications without rewrite and take advantage of all of the benefits of WebLogic 9.0, BlueDragon once again exemplifies how BEA can deliver solutions that are designed to enable businesses to unfreeze IT assets and give them a new life.

"BlueDragon is an incredibly valuable application for us," said Doug Chambers, IT applications administrator, Georgia Department of Transportation. "By utilizing BlueDragon, we have been able to standardize our enterprise architecture and leverage, modernize and extend legacy applications throughout our IT systems without costly investments. We're excited by the extensive product evolution possibilities that having a big, reputable company like BEA stand behind affords."
