Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Tunebite Version 3 Extends Consumer Protection to Include Support for DRM-Protected Video Clips
Tunebite Version 3 Extends Consumer Protection to Include Support for DRM-Protected Video Clips

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/27/06 -- RapidSolution Software today announced the release of Version 3 of its popular Windows software Tunebite. The product, which protects consumers from the frustrations of copy-protection formats, creates unprotected private copies of music and audio book files by recording them as they are being played. The new version, which now also offers support for copy-protected video clip formats, is available at http://www.tunebite.com.

Increased Consumer Protection within the Letter of the Law

Since 2004, RapidSolution has helped responsible consumers exercise their legal right to be able to play music they have purchased online on all of their playback devices, free from the limitations of copy protection. To this end, previous releases of Tunebite allowed users to play copy-protected music and audio book files on the PC in software players supporting copy-protection formats, and to simultaneously record them for the purpose of creating unprotected copies for private use. Tunebite 3 Platinum now also supports the ability to record copy-protected video clips while they are being played.

Tunebite Frees Music, Audio Book and Now Video Clip Files from DRM Problems

Video clips for mobile devices -- as well as for at-home use -- are the latest consumer craze. As is the case with many trends in the electronic entertainment industry today, Apple is leading the way with its iTunes music shop. In addition to thousands of music videos, Apple now offers video clips from the animation studio Pixar and even fee-based video podcasts. Warner has also been active in this area. Unfortunately, consumers owning an MPEG4 or WMV video-capable PDA, mobile phone, Play Station Portable or any one of a multitude of additional mobile multimedia devices are already facing the DRM problem. Many playback devices simply provide no support for Apple's MP4 copy-protection format, and without content that can be played on them, these devices are little more than expensive toys.

Music Video Clips from Apple iTunes Are Only the Beginning

Based on past experience, it's fair to assume that the market will soon be flooded with numerous vendors touting their own copy-protection formats. Daily soaps, comedy series, financial news, films from Warner and video podcasts have already been sent up in trial balloons. It's also only a matter of time until the film industry, mobile phone manufacturers, PayTV giants and UMTS providers -- hoping to get their share of this mass market -- develop their own fee-based offerings. The already-recognized chaos originating from the music market, as well as the disadvantages for the end consumer, are sure to increase.

New Tunebite Version 3 Represents Freedom for the Consumer

Tunebite 3 Platinum creates totally unprotected MPEG4 video clips from copy-protected MP4 and WMV files. To accomplish this, Tunebite 3 uses the proven approach of recording media while it is being played; the copy-protection measures in the source files are not circumvented or defeated in any way.
