![]() Eclipse News Desk Instantiations Sponsors "New Approaches for Java Rich Client Development" Live Webinar on May 31
Eclipse thought-leaders Mike Taylor and Mike Milinkovich will discuss a new approach to building desktop and rich client apps
May. 23, 2006 08:30 PM
The SYS-CON.TV Webcast will be taped at SYS-CON's Times Square Studios and will stream live on Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 2 PM EST. Traditionally most application developers have designed their own architecture and then construct application frameworks themselves. This approach increases development time and adds considerable costs in time, support, and effort to solve a problem that is peripheral to building the application business logic. Eclipse was originally developed as a software tools integration framework. Starting with version 3.0, the Eclipse development team completely separated the base runtime platform, known as the rich-client platform (RCP), from the development tools infrastructure. The result is an extensible, cross-platform application framework that is suitable for building almost any kind of desktop or rich client application in Java. The first wave of commercial RCP-based applications are starting to appear in a wide variety of industries. Many organizations are standardizing on Eclipse RCP as the architecture for their internal IT applications, thus enabling them to run as manageable, integrated suites rather than as disassociated units of functionality.
