(RLS2000) engaged Broadleaf to consolidate their servers through virtualization as part of a solution to improve reliability, uptime, scalability and performance.

After discussing RLS2000's needs and goals, Broadleaf recommended a virtualization solution utilizing both VMware and NetApp. Server virtualization with VMware has helped improve the RLS2000 infrastructure. Server maintenance can be performed without any downtime; likewise the impact of any hardware failures can be minimized as the new VMs can be moved to another server within seconds. The hosted web solutions now have a new environment that is ready for anything and performance has been increased dramatically, while still leaving plenty of room to expand.

Shared storage is required to take full advantage of the server virtualization solution in the areas of migration, failover, and recovery. Broadleaf recommended that RLS2000 bring the NetApp HA FAS 2220 with 10K SAS drives into their environment for 99.999% uptime and high database performance. In addition to supporting the VMware environment, the NetApp enterprise class storage platform is a huge asset to RLS2000 as it provides: space efficient snapshots, deduplication, multiprotocol support, and application specific backup and recovery functionality. Deduplication slows storage growth costs significantly. Space efficient snapshots serve as recovery points for any onsite data loss or corruption.

The project also included two Dell R620s to provide resource HA and vMotion capabilities. A VMware Acceleration Kit was selected to provide the appropriate licensing and features and allow for future expansion. The Broadleaf professional services team implemented the solution for RLS2000 and has since completed the knowledge transfer, allowing them to manage the new environment.
