CCID Consulting: Rapid Development of COMPASS Fueling Growth of Geographic Information in China

CCID Consulting (HK: 08235) :

China's COMPASS Navigation Satellite Industry

As China's self-developed navigation satellite system, COMPASS has played a positive role in various aspects of the country's economy and society. Its construction and operation is gradually becoming the core driving force for the development of China's navigation satellite industry, and such a promoting role is also strengthening, driving the explosive growth of the industry. According to the statistics of CCID Consulting, the size of China's COMPASS navigation satellite industry reached RMB 8.596 billion in 2011, an increase of 43.2% year-on-year.

Currently, the COMPASS industry is taking shape in China’s various provinces and municipalities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Sichuan and Chongqing (see Figure 1). The COMPASS system has been widely applied in various fields such as meteorology, fishery, transportation, hydrology, forestry, rescue, telecommunication, and power generation. Although the current performance of the COMPASS navigation satellite system is still far below GPS, it is undoubtedly to play a critical role in China's navigation satellite industry in the future.
