HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Geneia announced today that it will participate in the 71^st Annual New Hampshire Local Government Center Conference.  On November 14^th at 1:30 pm, Geneia's Chief Operating Officer Heather Staples Lavoie will present on the success of patient-centered medical homes in improving access, quality and costs.

At Geneia, Ms. Lavoie oversees over 200 clinicians and other personnel operating out of its Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, headquarters, with solutions services available throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.  She brings national expertise on risk-sharing arrangements, having previously facilitated the development, implementation and management of the NH Accountable Care Organization and NH Medical Home Pilot Programs.  As reported in the September 2012 edition of Health Affairs, the NH Medical Home Pilot was a success.  Preliminary research results show the monthly costs for medical home patients declined.  For one participating insurer, costs increased 5 percent for medical home participants compared to 12 percent in traditional medical practices. 

Also this month, Ms. Lavoie will represent Geneia through an appointment to the Advisory Board of the NH Accountable Care Project, an initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to select and report on a set of common measures and benchmarks of New Hampshire healthcare costs, utilization and quality to support the transformation of state's health systems.  The Board will provide direction, oversight and planning for 20 participating accountable care organizations.  The kick off meeting is on November 19^th.
