In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...
Active Power to Showcase Next Generation PowerHouse and UPS Platforms at Datacenter Dynamics Converged
Critical Power Expert to Speak on Transformation of Power Grid and Impact to Data Centre Power Infrastructure

EVESHAM, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 11/12/12 -- With data centre power requirements on the rise, space for additional critical power infrastructure to support growing server densities and IT capacity will continue to pose an issue for operators. In the United Kingdom, requirements currently sit at nearly three gigawatts.(1)

To help UK operators better manage their IT and physical infrastructure, Active Power, manufacturer of UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems and modular infrastructure solutions, will have on display its newest PowerHouse demonstration system at Datacenter Dynamics Converged in London (14-15 November).

With a focus on improving overall total cost of ownership, PowerHouse integrates new features to enhance its value and technical differentiation and incorporates a redesign of key components for cost efficiencies. The solution is a timely and compelling modular platform for a variety of applications including organisations that are rapidly expanding or that require temporary critical power during facility build out.

PowerHouse is also now designed to support Active Power's new CleanSource High Density (CSHD) 625 kVA UPS (uninterruptible power supply). CSHD is the most power dense UPS on the market at this power range, consuming half the space of a legacy system.(2) With capital costs equivalent to a conventional battery based system and up to 30 percent savings in operating expenses(3), CSHD is an attractive alternative to incumbent UPS technology particularly for leading innovators in data centre design.

PowerHouse Tours at Technology Park
The modular infrastructure demonstration system with CSHD will be located in the show's Technology Park located on the ground floor level of the ExCel ICC. For a guided tour of PowerHouse, please visit the Active Power stand (#46) during exhibit hours, 07:45-17:45 on 14 November and 07:45-17:00 on 15 November.

Active Power Presenting at Conference
Bernardo Mendez, UPS product line manager at Active Power, is scheduled to speak at show. In his presentation, Mendez moves away from the usual conversations about how load profiles are changing in the data center and highlights the increasing transformation of the utility grid and its impact on today's mission critical data centre. Mendez will also discuss why a paradigm shift needs to happen in UPS design.

WHAT: "The Changing Face of Utility Power and the UPS"

WHEN: Thursday, 15 November, 11:25-13:10

WHERE: Hall 5, ExCel ICC, London

(1) Datacenter Dynamics, Global Data Center Census, October 2012
(2) Footprint comparison based on published specification of 750kVA (480V) and 625kVA (400V) units with four standard battery cabinets versus CSHD Flywheel UPS
(3) Calculation based on CSHD 625 kVA vs 625 kVA rated double conversion UPS with four battery cabinets. Savings due in part to high energy efficiencies, less cooling requirements, and low maintenance.
