Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. TES International Furthers its Partnership with Altair by Adding Its Other Thermal Analysis Application to the HyperWorks Partner Alliance
ThermoFlo, thermal and fluid flow analysis software, can now be accessed through the HWPA

TROY, Mich., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair's HyperWorks Partner Alliance (HWPA) today announced the expansion of its partnership with TES International (TES). TES has added its thermal and fluid flow analysis software, ThermoFlo, to the HWPA's repertoire of computer aided engineering (CAE) applications. ThermoFlo, the counterpart to TES's recent addition to the HWPA, ElectroFlo, also performs thermal analysis but for a variety of applications in addition to electronics. Unlike Electroflo, ThermoFlo uses 1-D models for component-based model analysis to simplify product development prototyping and testing.

"We have been very pleased with the HWPA partnership since we launched ElectroFlo in September, and we couldn't be happier to be furthering this relationship with our neighboring software company," said Dr. Jeff Lewis, president of TES International. "ThermoFlo brings a new level of versatility to the thermal analysis and CFD simulation tool set currently available within the HWPA, and we are eager to increase our presence within this program."

ThermoFlo has capabilities to solve thermal and flow problems for many different applications pertaining to aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, defense electronics and emerging energy technologies. Its 1-D systems modeling approach allows for geometrical changes potentially to be made as easily as changing a single value in the model. This can dramatically speed up the prototyping and testing process for interchanging different components in a system, or for tweaking the properties of components. ThermoFlo also is able to incorporate 3-D models into the analysis for more detailed components, if so desired. ThermoFlo will complement ElectroFlo within the HWPA by extending its thermal analysis capabilities to other areas than specifically electronics, also including differentiating features such as a simple, easy to use drag-and-drop user interface, custom complex math expressions, pressure drop calculation, and customizable parts modeling, among others.

"We are very pleased with TES' decision to expand its participation in the HyperWorks Partner Alliance," said Antoine Poussier, Altair's vice president of global partner programs. "The addition of ThermoFlo and its unique combination with ElectroFlo deepens the HWPA's offering in thermal analysis and furthers the program's mission of bringing the most comprehensive portfolio of technology to Altair customers."

For the past 12 years, Altair's innovative and versatile unit-based licensing system has allowed HyperWorks users to access a growing portfolio of applications while optimizing their investment. Each license is composed of a pool of recyclable HyperWorks units (HWUs), which can be used to access any application within the HyperWorks family.  Each software application requires a predetermined number of units to run. The necessary units are removed from the user's total pool only while that given application is running and are returned for future use once the program has been closed.

Over the last four years, Altair has opened this model to third-party companies and allowed them to run their own applications under this unit-based system, a collaboration known as the HyperWorks Partner Alliance. The overall flexibility of these HWUs empowers users and allows them access to the largest and most complete suite of CAE applications available. This makes the benefits to participating HyperWorks customers infinite, with their return on investment increasing each time a new application, such as ThermoFlo, is added to the offering. They can access any of the partner programs using the same leased HWUs they are already using to run HyperWorks, all available at no incremental cost or long-term commitment.
