Dr. Neumann Heads a Growing and Enriching Educational Environment for Military Students and Others Pursuing Online Graduate Degrees
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Yoram Neumann returns to the 25-thousand-student Touro University system as the Chief Executive Officer of the online and not-for-profit Touro University Worldwide (TUW). He was the founder of TUW's precursor Touro University International and he is considered an innovator in the distance education field, especially for students associated with adult learning, government, and the military.
Dr. Neumann has a goal to create learning institutions that are committed to social justice, intellectual pursuit, and professional development. His return as CEO of TUW brings much promise to the growing online university. Dr. Edith Neumann has also returned to the Touro family as provost of TUW. The Neumanns have developed the Robust Learning Model for online education which facilitates online learning for adult learners while attaining high standards of academic performance, retention, and graduation rates.
"It is my goal to create a learning environment where students can receive a higher education degree on their own schedule, allowing them to pursue careers simultaneously," says Dr. Neumann of his latest educational venture. "Some of the programs that Touro University Worldwide offers, such as our Master of Arts Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Master of Arts Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, and our Master of Arts Degree in the relatively new field of Media and Communication Psychology, are not programs that are traditionally offered in an online format, which is why we felt it important not to deny students this learning opportunity. We also offer an online Masters in Business Administration (MBA), which directly serves the needs of many of our active duty military, as well as those transitioning out of the armed forces into civilian life." Additional degree programs that Touro University Worldwide plans to offer soon include the Doctor of Psychology, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
One of Dr. Neumann's greatest strengths as an online educator is his passion for every student to have the opportunity for higher education, in particular, military students. Many military students face the challenges of difficult schedules and lack of access to available campuses and the online environment is a perfect fit for their needs. Having had years of military experience in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Dr. Neumann is very familiar with the needs of students associated with government and the military.
Dr. Neumann has developed learner- centered distance learning programs in leadership positions in several universities for the past thirty years. Those programs included high levels of student engagement, student-faculty interactions, and timely and constructive feedback on students' assignments.
Touro University Worldwide and Dr. Neumann's efforts to create this educational stronghold have not gone unnoticed by current students. "I have found TUW's online class to be extremely accommodating to my busy military schedule," stated Don Y., a current MBA student and active military service member. "TUW understands my need for flexibility and fully supports my educational goals. I can easily access all the resources for my classes, and I have a community of dedicated, compassionate professors."
