Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

enVista Receives Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s 2012 Green Supply Chain Award

enVista, a leading supply chain consulting and IT services firm, announced today that it has received Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine’s 2012 Green Supply Chain Award for services that enable and promote sustainability. enVista consultants are LEAN Six Sigma experts, helping companies reduce waste from source to consumption. The firm is profiled in the December issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine.

The 2012 Green Supply Chain Awards recognize companies making green practices a core part of their supply chain strategy, and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and/or supply chains, in the areas of Sourcing/Procurement, Fulfillment/Logistics, Operations, Product Lifecycle Management and other areas of the supply chain. The awards also recognize providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals. Supply & Demand Chain Executive received nearly 100 entries for the 2012 Green Supply Chain Award.

enVista was presented the 2012 Green Supply Chain Award based on its work with a major tire retailer. enVista modeled and redesigned the retailer’s supply chain network to synchronize inventory with demand. By positioning inventory closer to the demand point, while increasing store shipment frequency, the retailer witnessed a 4.15-9.72 percent increase in comparative sales compared to the non-test stores in the same geography. A SKU optimization analysis based on demand, revenue margin and demand variability revealed that tire assortment carried in inventory could be reduced by 20 percent. This reduction would generate a one-time, $28.2 million inventory value reduction and decrease annual carrying costs by $3.3 million. The shift also significantly reduced the retailer’s energy consumption and safety stock.

The second step involved positioning the right amount of inventory at the right locations (DC, spoke or store). This increased inventory turns at the stores by 60 percent and contributed to a one-time working capital reduction of $24.6 million, as well as reduced annual carrying costs by $35.9 million over a period of five years. enVista consultants and LEAN experts also recommended the retailer reduce warehousing costs and better manage energy consumption by leasing unused warehouse space. In addition, enVista right-sized the retailer’s private fleet for the last-mile delivery at each spoke location to eliminate unnecessary transportation costs and emissions.

enVista President and CEO Jim Barnes said, “It is immensely gratifying to help companies make a positive environmental impact by reducing waste throughout their supply chains. The results for our clients are often immediate and usually deliver not only desired sustainability, but also a significant impact to the bottom line. We are incredibly honored to receive the 2012 Green Supply Chain Award.”

enVista enables companies to improve sustainability through Supply Chain Strategy, Operations, Technology, Transportation, ERP and IT Consulting Services and solutions. These reduce inventory and transportation waste and optimize facilities, supply chain networks and labor productivity. enVista also promotes Green Practices and Sustainability within its own organization through a variety of corporate practices and programs.
