PLACERVILLE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/16/12 -- The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and Gov. Edmund G. Brown signed an Amended Tribal State Compact on Nov. 15, 2012. The Amended Compact was the result of negotiations over the last year between the Tribe and Gov. Brown's Office. Tribal Chairman Nicholas H. Fonseca said, "This Amended Compact is critical to improving the position of the Tribe's Red Hawk Casino and benefits the Tribe, the casino and our dedicated team members. Gov. Brown recognizes that this Amended Compact is good for all of us and ensures the long-term financial prosperity of the Tribe and its casino."

The Shingle Springs Band's Red Hawk Casino generates positive economic benefits to El Dorado County with minimal environmental impact. The Tribe and Red Hawk Casino spend more than $60 million in direct payroll and benefits each year for their approximately 1,350 team members. Most of Red Hawk's visitors come from outside El Dorado County, and the casino's location captures California gaming and entertainment dollars that would otherwise go elsewhere.

This Amended Compact strikes a fair balance between the Tribe and the state, unlike the previous compact, which sent far more revenue to the state and others than to the Tribe itself. The Amended Compact is designed to facilitate a refinancing of the casino's financial structure, placing it on sound financial footing.

The Shingle Springs Tribe has a long history of positive partnership with the state and El Dorado County. The Tribe has made, and will continue to make, significant contributions to El Dorado County to mitigate the impacts of its gaming facility. The Tribe funds public safety and road improvement projects, and operates a health clinic. All of these projects serve the broader community and these benefits were achieved with funds generated from Red Hawk Casino. Chairman Fonseca said, "This Amended Compact will allow Red Hawk Casino to continue to provide jobs and revenues for basic services for my Tribe's citizens and our neighbors."

The Amended Compact will now be submitted to the California legislature for approval. Chairman Fonseca said, "This amended compact allows our gaming enterprise to be in a position to continue to help our tribal citizens, the state and our local community. We look forward to its passage."
