In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. National Public Affairs Group Announces Seeking Interns as Bylined Op-Ed Writers and Fundraisers; Group Headed by Ex-Clinton Senior White House and Congress Communications Director

WASHINGTON, Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Robert Weiner Associates, a national public affairs and advocacy journalism writing group headquartered just outside Washington, DC, today announced it is seeking volunteer interns as bylined op-ed writers for major papers and fundraisers for a journalism progressive issue advocacy project.  Both interns will receive financial bonuses based on productivity.

Bob Weiner, Company President who was a senior public affairs director in the Clinton White House and a congressional committee chief of staff for and senior aide for Congressmen John Conyers, Charles Rangel, Claude Pepper, Ed Koch, and Senator Ted Kennedy, today issued the following announcements:

INTERNSHIP IN NEWSPAPER COLUMN WRITING, POLITICS, GOVERNMENT:  NATIONAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS ISSUE STRATEGIES GROUP UNDER EX-CLINTON & CONGRESS COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR SEEKS WRITER TO BYLINE MAJOR PAPER op-eds, ORGANIZE NEWS CONFERENCES WITH VIP POLITICOS

(Washington, DC) -- A public affairs and issue strategy company headed by a senior Clinton administration Public Affairs Director and former congressional communications director for congressional leaders is looking for a quality volunteer intern to develop media strategies for progressive but realistic national issues and organizations -- including working with White House offices, leaders of Congress, consumer groups, world sports agencies, health care rights supporters, efficient military systems advocates, drug policy/criminal justice experts, progressive political organizations, and others.

One key aspect is that you will research, write, and co-byline op-ed columns (opinion pieces) in major national newspapers—we've done 160+ recent ones
(http://www.weinerpublic.com/op-eds.html).

If you have written for college or mainstream papers or radio-TV and have experience with deadlines and word efficiency, you may have what we need – and what will make your internship productive, published, and fun.

Company President Bob Weiner served in the Clinton White House as a Director of Public Affairs from 1995-2001.  Earlier, he worked for U.S. Congressmen John Conyers (D-MI), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Claude Pepper (D-FL), Ed Koch (D-NY), Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA).  Bob believes in the genius of youth and opposes age discrimination —his first Washington position was as National Youth Vote Director for the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate during the famed 1972 Nixon-break-in of the headquarters.  Opposing both sides of age discrimination, he was later Chief of Staff of the House Aging Committee, brought Colonel Sanders in as a witness, and helped abolish mandatory retirement. Bob has directed the General Press Room for four Democratic National Conventions and the Daily Press Briefing Room for the most recent one.

While working for President Clinton, Bob was credited by the New York Times as the first grand jury witness to stand on the courthouse steps and criticize Ken Starr's "overreach" --  Bob chastised Starr as "big brother at its worst" for subpoenaing him and requiring his testimony for personal phone calls by Bob and his wife from their house to congratulate friends for a press release covered on TV criticizing Linda Tripp's taping of Monica Lewinsky. That night, Bob and Pat were the lead of NBC and ABC Network news, were interviewed on Today and GMA the next morning, were covered in virtually every paper in the country, and Jay Leno made a joke in his monologue (and afterward called Bob to make sure it was OK!). Following Bob's action nearly all witnesses went on the steps to criticize Starr, and Starr's popularity and investigation sank.

"If you like politics and action, our internship is a great opportunity," Weiner said.  "But you have to be fearless and organized to succeed.  We deal with the top people in Washington, and I want good writers who are also confident on the phone and in person.  You do need to be willing to do whatever the workload requires. Most of all, I want someone who knows how to have fun while working because what we do is quite exciting – we are making a difference," Bob concluded.

We have had recent op-eds published in the Washington Post and Washington Times, New York Times, Miami Herald, Baltimore Sun, San Francisco Chronicle, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Boston Globe, New York Daily News, New York Post, Newsday, Palm Beach Post, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Honolulu Star Bulletin, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Des Moines Register, Denver Post, Tallahassee Democrat, New York Post, The New York Daily News, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Michigan Chronicle and many others.

You'll help write opinion columns for major newspapers and will generate talking points for national network radio and TV shows. You'll develop public affairs strategies for national issues and organizations. Be part of meetings in Washington where Bob is a Committee member of cutting edge and influential national organizations and works closely with the White House and Congress, and develop policy and media releases used to build issues and understanding.

Applicant must have a car – the headquarters is in Maryland, 20 minutes from Capitol Building.

Lunch and transportation costs each day included, bonuses awarded for generating press coverage, op-eds, memoranda and papers.

INTERNSHIP IN ISSUE-DRIVEN PUBLIC RELATIONS AND FUNDRAISING FOR PROGRESSIVE ADVOCACY JOURNALISM GROUP HEADED BY EX-SENIOR WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS PUBLIC AFFAIRS DIRECTOR

(Washington, DC) – A registered 501(c)(3) non-profit issue strategy writers group headed by a senior Clinton administration Public Affairs Director and former congressional communications director for congressional leaders is looking for a quality volunteer intern to help raise funds for a new issue-driven organization that writes op-eds in top papers.  The position also includes working with White House offices, leaders of Congress, consumer groups, world sports agencies, health care rights supporters, efficient military systems advocates, drug policy/criminal justice experts, progressive political organizations, and others.

An ideal candidate should be able to research, identify and develop contacts with new donors as well as work from current contacts. Development of pitches and strategies to meet specific funding goals is also a must. A large part of the job includes tracking, contacting and following up with prospective donors. The capacity to follow up with letters and calls to finalize contributions -- ability to close the deal -- is an important skill set.

Company President Bob Weiner served in the Clinton White House as a Director of Public Affairs from 1995-2001.  Earlier, he worked for U.S. Congressmen John Conyers (D-MI), Charles Rangel (D-NY), Claude Pepper (D-FL), Ed Koch (D-NY), and Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA).  Bob believes in the energy and genius of youth and opposes age discrimination —his first Washington position was as National Youth Vote Director for the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate during the famed break-in of the headquarters.  Opposing both sides of age discrimination, he was later Chief of Staff of the House Aging Committee, brought Colonel Sanders in as a witness, and helped abolish mandatory retirement. Bob has directed the General Press Room for four Democratic National Conventions and the Daily Press Briefing Room for the most recent two conventions nominating President Obama.

"If you like politics in the best sense—moving issues-- and action, our internship is a great opportunity," Weiner said.  "But you have to be fearless and organized to succeed.  We deal with the top people in Washington, and I want someone confident and friendly on the phone and in person.  You do need to be willing to do whatever the workload requires. Most of all, I want someone who knows how to have fun while working because what we do is quite exciting – we are making a difference," Bob concluded.
