In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

California Community Foundation And Its Donors Contribute $133 Million To Needs And Nonprofits

Additional $94.5 million invested this year in Greater Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- California Community Foundation (CCF) made $133 million in grants and other disbursements to nonprofits and charitable institutions for affordable housing, health care, arts, education, environmental and other causes during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.  This philanthropic investment represents an increase of 10 percent over the previous fiscal year.  Approximately two-thirds, $94.5 million, were invested in addressing the needs and supporting the nonprofits of Greater Los Angeles.

The fiscal year ended strong for CCF on June 30, 2012, with $1.20 billion in assets.

"California Community Foundation is alone in creating and managing charitable funds and foundations for meaningful, strategic philanthropy by Los Angeles donors, and that directly benefit Los Angeles communities," said CCF President and CEO, Antonia Hernández.  "Assets entrusted to us by generations of donors provide us with the resources and flexibility to make long-term investments in priority areas of the foundation, fund new initiatives with community and foundation partners, and provide one-time grants or low-interest loans in response to critical needs or unusual opportunities."

In addition, during the first quarter of the fiscal year that began July 1, 2012, CCF awarded 25 grants and loans totaling $2,680,000 to local nonprofits throughout Los Angeles County from unrestricted charitable funds at the discretion of the community foundation.

Over the course of the last 10 years, CCF has raised $1.8 billion in contributions and distributed $1.34 billion in grants, loans, scholarships and fellowships.  CCF grants and other disbursements complement the charitable giving of its donors.  This combination of institutional and individual philanthropy along with a commitment to civic engagement is part of CCF's multifaceted character.

California Community Foundation (CCF) is a public, charitable organization serving communities of Greater Los Angeles since 1915 through effective philanthropy and civic engagement.  It encourages philanthropy by individuals, families, companies and organizations, and serves as a steward of their charitable funds and legacies.  It collaborates with nonprofits to address needs in their communities and provides support through grants, loans, scholarships, fellowships and other forms.  It convenes and engages with private, public, nonprofit and foundation leaders in community problem solving and advocacy work.  For more information, visit www.calfund.org or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/calfund.
