In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Charity Scheme Helps Bibby Financial Services Become One of UK's Best Employers

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/11/12 -- Bibby Financial Services, the UK's largest independent invoice finance specialist, has been recognised as one of the top employers in the UK for encouraging charitable activities.

The firm, which employs 649 people across 16 offices throughout the UK and provides invoice finance for UK businesses (nearly 4,000 businesses a year), ranked in the top 15 for supporting the fundraising activities of its employees in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For list. This helped the company to achieve 84th place overall, up 11 places on 2011.

Under an employee engagement initiative entitled Giving Something Back, Bibby Financial Services aims to offer all of its employees support towards fundraising and volunteering activities for a chosen charity, cause or project at a local level.

Recent fundraising activities include an expedition by Bibby Financial Services' Julie Ashmore to the South Pole in January 2012 to mark 100 years since the death of polar explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott.

Julie, a 43-year old mother of two, completed the challenge with a group of other explorers to raise money for Fairbridge, a charity which works with inner city youths to gain the confidence and motivation to change their lives, becoming one of only 300 people to have reached the South Pole over land. Bibby Financial Services will match fund the money she raised through the venture, which Julie is hoping will total around GBP 10,000.

Julie, UK operations director at Bibby Financial Services says: "There were some very challenging times during the trek, including white out conditions that lasted for more than a day and frostbite inducing temperatures. However, it's been a privilege to have been to such a special part of the world while raising funds for such a worthwhile cause. I would like to thank my colleagues, friends and family for their support and encouragement."

The Giving Something Back programme was established after the success of employee giving during parent company Bibby Line Group's bicentenary year in 2007 and the whole organisation continues its commitment to supporting charitable causes and projects throughout the world. To date, Bibby Financial Services and its employees have donated more than GBP 169,000 to 95 different charities.

Miriam Koller, HR director at Bibby Financial Services says: "Through the Giving Something Back programme we aim to harness the passion of our people and contribute something back to the local communities in which we are involved, either personally or where we do business. Most of all we want everyone to enjoy being a part of it."
