Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. Help Alert Named Top Technology Innovation of 2012
Security Sales and Innovation magazine commends the staff duress solution as reliable, flexible

BROOKFIELD, Wis., Dec. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- PinPoint Technologies, a leading provider of real-time location systems (RTLS), received a technology innovation award for its Help Alert® Wireless Staff Duress Solution.

Announced in early December, Security Sales and Innovation (SSI) magazine honored Help Alert as one of its "Top 30 Technology Innovations of 2012" for both its wireless staff duress technology and corresponding mobile apps. Honorees included the past year's greatest innovations and breakthroughs in security technology from a wide range of entries.

"[Help Alert] provides responders the edge they need to mitigate the severity of a security event utilizing existing Wi-Fi infrastructure to provide a cost-effective solution that is easily deployable," the article said.

Using an RTLS platform, Help Alert assists in quickly locating healthcare, education or hospitality staff in need of assistance. By pressing a button on a small pendant, Help Alert immediately and discreetly reports the pendant's location to a security team.

The system doesn't require additional wires, cables or new construction work to install, yielding a simple, fast set up for dealers and channel partners, and a cost-effective solution for the end user.

The advancements to Help Alert apps for Apple® products, such as the iPhone® and iPad®, were also commended for their cost-effectiveness and ease of implementation. Through apps, security teams can view alerts in real-time on a floor plan, immediately acknowledge alarms while responding to an incident, and clear an alert on the spot after resolving the situation.

"One of our top priorities is to offer a simple, reliable staff duress solution that makes our customers feel safe, while at the same time providing a cost-effective solution for the facility," said Bryan Tracey, vice president of PinPoint Technologies. "SSI has recognized Help Alert with its technology innovation award for doing just that, and we're extremely honored."
