EMERYVILLE, Calif., Dec. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SCS Global Services (SCS) has verified the carbon footprint of Delta Air Lines, making it the world's first legacy airline to achieve a successful, independent third party verification of its greenhouse gas emissions inventory. SCS confirmed Delta's conformance with The Climate Registry's General Reporting Protocol, one of the world's most trusted methodologies for measuring greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

As part of the verification, the SCS team visited Delta's operations and also conducted interviews with Delta personnel to verify that the correct methodologies were used to calculate the company's carbon footprint. By having its carbon footprint verified by SCS, Delta has assured that its footprint measurement is of high quality, transparent, and credible. Membership in The Climate Registry gives Delta access to guidance in measuring its carbon inventory and access to the Climate Registry's online calculation and reporting tools. The company is now eligible to use the Climate Registered^TM logo and will be recognized on the Climate Registry's website.

Having received a positive verification statement in October for historic emission years 2005-2010, Delta is now pursuing verification of its 2011 greenhouse gas inventory.  Delta is the second carrier worldwide to meet the requirements of the registry, joining Virgin America in achieving verification.
