In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Southern California McDonald's® Restaurants End The Year Donating Nearly $140,000 To Local Schools

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- To continue the holiday giving spirit, Southern California McDonald's restaurants donated nearly $140,000 raised through McTeacher's Night fundraising events that took place this past October. Administrators of schools from across the southland were invited to trade the classroom for a post behind the McDonald's counter, and earn a percentage of the total sales for classroom supplies, field trips and educational activities.

Throughout the month, principals and teachers from more than 200 participating schools became McDonald's employees for one evening greeting customers, working the registers, and assisting with the preparation of food orders. Families of students and community members visited their local McDonald's to support the worthy cause and help raise funds.

"McTeacher's Night events take place year-round, yet we give these fundraisers special focus in October to help fund educational programs that have been affected by budget cuts," said Michael Mangione, Jr., McDonald's owner/operator and president of the McDonald's Operators' Association of Southern California (MOASC).  "McTeacher's Night is another opportunity for McDonald's to give back to the communities where we do business, and it's exciting to see everyone come together for one evening in support of our teachers and students."

School administrators interested in participating in McTeacher's Night, are encouraged to visit their local McDonald's franchisee or restaurant manager to ask for details on how to create a profitable fundraiser.

MOASC is an alliance of more than 600 franchised and company-owned McDonald's restaurants in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura. MAOSC takes pride in giving back to the communities in which it does business. One of MOASC's major objectives is to provide philanthropic aid to programs, schools and charities that provide for the well-being of children. MOASC does this by providing funding to local charities and programs that support children's health care and medical research, education and the arts, and social and civic service through its philanthropic arm – Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California. Every year MOASC, with the support of McDonald's customers, donate more than $2 million to area non-profits dedicated to helping children.
