I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Share Photos and Online Videos to Your TV with New AT&T U-verse Enabled Apps
PacketVideo Latest Developer to Make App Available to U-verse TV Customers through AT&T Open APIs

DALLAS, Jan. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* has introduced two U-verse® Enabled apps which give consumers more innovative ways to share and interact with content: Twonky Beam, developed by PacketVideo, and Pix & Flix. Working with experts at AT&T Labs and tapping into our capabilities at the AT&T Foundry®, developers like PacketVideo are able to plug our technology into their apps and services through open APIs made available by AT&T– delivering innovations to customers faster than ever. Through AT&T's approach to innovation – opening our network to innovators inside and outside the company – we can quickly and efficiently create new ways for customers to interact with their devices and U-verse service.

The Twonky Beam app lets you take your favorite compatible video clip from the smallest screen in the home—your smartphone—to the biggest with a swipe of your finger. Quickly and easily send compatible Internet video clips you're viewing on your mobile device to the U-verse receiver to watch them on your TV screen.

With Pix & Flix, created in the AT&T Labs, you can share photos with friends and family on the biggest screen in the home—the TV. The Pix & Flix app allows U-verse TV customers with High Speed Internet to "throw" photos stored on your mobile device to your TV, making it easy to view your images on the big screen quickly. You can also connect to your personal Facebook account and view photos associated with your account on your TV screen. View photos as a single page or in slideshow mode, with customizable view settings.

"TV is becoming a more interactive experience than ever, and that's reflected in the latest apps to hit our U-verse Enabled Platform," said Jeff Weber, President of Content and Advertising Sales, AT&T Home Solutions. "These apps make it easier than ever to share your favorite photos and videos on a screen that's easy for everyone to gather around and watch. We're excited to work with more developers to deliver more second-screen apps to customers."

Each of these apps utilize the U-verse Enabled platform, and are available to U-verse TV customers with High Speed Internet Access. Customers can connect their apps to any U-verse receiver in the home through channel 9301, without needing special equipment. U-verse TV customers already have access to several additional U-verse Enabled TV apps at no extra charge.

Since 2009, AT&T U-verse added more TV subscribers in total than any of the major TV providers reported** and is the only 100 percent Internet Protocol-based television (IPTV) service offered by a national service provider.
