I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

WebMediaBrands Enters 3D Printing Field with Launch of Inside 3D Printing Trade Show

WebMediaBrands Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBM) today announced the launch of the Inside 3D Printing Conference and Expo (#3DPrintConf) in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on April 22-23, 2013. Renowned 3D printing expert Dr. Hod Lipson of Cornell University will serve as the program chair of the inaugural event. Inside 3D Printing consists of two full days of tutorials and conference sessions, as well as an exhibition of 3D printing applications and services. A companion west coast show will take place at the Santa Clara, CA Convention Center in September 2013.

"Inside 3D Printing is the first U.S. event to delve into the present and future of the business impact of 3D printing,” stated Alan M. Meckler, Chairman and CEO of WebMediaBrands. “3D printing has become the next great technological disruptive force in the field of ‘making things’ and according to a recent article in The Economist, 3D printing ‘could well rewrite the rules of manufacturing in much the same way as the PC trashed the traditional world of computing.’”

Dr. Hod Lipson is an associate professor and the director of the Creative Machines Lab at Cornell University. He co-authored the book, Fabricated: The New World of 3D Printing, which will be published February 4, 2013 by John Wiley & Sons.
