Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. MIT Technology Review's Latest Issue Provides the Definitive Explanation of How Big Data Will Save Politics

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, MIT Technology Review's January/February Issue hits newsstands. In a pair of features, the issue examines the role technology played in the recent election and explores how it will redefine politics in the future.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121024/DC95022LOGO)

Jason Pontin, editor in chief and publisher, states, "This issue of MIT Technology Review has many jewels–perhaps its most notable feature is Sasha Issenberg's definitive account of the part played by technology in the last U.S. presidential election. Issenberg, who authored The Victory Lab: The Secret Science of Winning Elections, describes how Obama won re-election: his campaign used big data analysis and the experimental method to assemble a winning coalition vote by vote."

In "How Technology Has Restored the Soul of Politics," political operative Joe Trippi cheers the innovations of Obama 2012, explaining how they restored the primacy of the individual voter. Continuing the political theme, our editors compose an open letter to the president, arguing that addressing climate change must take priority.

The cover story is a fascinating Q&A with Irish musician, venture capitalist, and philanthropist Bono. Don't presume that his status as a rock legend overshadows his passion for technology and humanitarianism. Bono expresses strong opinions on the role technology will play in fighting poverty and corruption.

The issue also features a photo essay on drilling for shale gas and a report on a diagnostic tool to help end TB.
