Dr. Shin has worked in several capacities at NYEEI, including director of otolaryngology resident education, director of the ENT clinics and attending physician in the faculty practice. His clinical interests include head and neck cancer, endocrine salivary gland disease and sinus disease.

Edward C. Halperin, M.D., M.A., chancellor for health affairs and chief executive officer at New York Medical College, said, "The work of the search committee to select the chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, and the recruitment of Dr. Shin for this position, were the result of constructive cooperation between the leadership of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, New York Medical College, and the clinical and basic sciences faculty. It is a concrete example of how this partnership, established in 1880, continues to flourish and benefit patients, research programs, and undergraduate and graduate medical education."

D. McWilliams Kessler, president and CEO of NYEEI, said, "We are fortunate to have Dr. Shin, whose academic and administrative accomplishments, as well as his dedication to medical education, will ensure a continuation of The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary's outstanding level of clinical care in otolaryngology and its tradition of leadership in the training of future generations of otolaryngologists."

Dr. Shin graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in biology with high distinction, and from Stanford University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at the University of California-San Francisco Medical Center. He also received a master's degree in clinical research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

After residency, Dr. Shin served as assistant professor of otolaryngology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and regional director of the Department of Otolaryngology at Queens and Elmhurst Hospital Center. He is the recipient of many honors and awards from Stanford School of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and NYEEI, including Teacher of the Year. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters, and is a national presenter.
