WASHINGTON, Jan. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) released a new fact sheet that debunks common gun myths as part of its Protect Children, Not Guns campaign. "The Truth About Guns" counters popular misconceptions about guns, children and guns, and gun safety legislation. "Children are shot by guns every 30 minutes. Yesterday we had yet another school shooting in Taft, California. These preventable tragedies must be stopped," said Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children's Defense Fund. "We all need to educate ourselves and find out the truth about guns so we can stop the gun violence epidemic that ruins the lives of children and families and tears communities apart."

The new fact sheet compiled by the Children's Defense Fund highlights that a gun in the home significantly increases the risk of homicide, suicide, and accidental death. The common refrain from the National Rifle Association is that a gun in the home makes you safer, but the facts contradict that myth. The new fact sheet examines ten of the most common misconceptions about guns.
