Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. Mapcom Systems Announces Release of M4(R) Solutions v7.0 Geographical Operations System (GOS) Software
Mapcom Systems Announces Release of M4(R) Solutions v7.0 Geographical Operations System (GOS) Software

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Mapcom Systems announced today the release of M4(R) Solutions v7.0, the latest release of its Windows-based Geographical Operations System (GOS) software for telecommunications companies. Retaining all of the functionality of previous releases, the release is the foundation product for three new modules: M4(R) Long Haul Fiber to complement the comprehensive fiber suite, M4(R) CPR, and M4(R) Dispatch Manager, which manages the service order and trouble ticket cycle from creation to close.

New enhancements made to existing functionality include additions to M4's fiber functionality, including an enhanced template builder and increased fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) tools, as well as laptop synching capabilities, and new security features.

Since its creation, M4(R) Solutions has evolved from an engineering mapping tool into an organization-wide geographical operations system that is easily integrated with any open database and most billing, accounting, network management and customer service applications. The company coined the term "Geographical Operations System" to represent its marriage of "GIS" (Geographical Information System) technology with "OSS" (Operational Support System) back office functionality.

"We are extremely excited about this new release because it expands usage of M4 into new telecommunications markets, into new areas of the telecommunications organization, and reinforces our dedication to making the tasks of all employees easier to manage," says John Granger, President and CEO of Mapcom Systems. "Mapcom was really the first company of its kind to actively encourage 'best of breed' integration, allowing companies to continue utilizing their existing data and applications, and it has paid off for our customers. Integration with M4 is reducing our customers' operational costs significantly while enabling them to better compete in today's competitive telecommunications world."

About Mapcom Systems

Unlike other facility management or mapping programs, M4(R) integrates with every ODBC database and with numerous customer service, network management, accounting and billing systems, creating a geographically-based operations platform that telecommunications providers use throughout their organizations. In addition to software, Mapcom provides custom mapping and ongoing record conversion, consulting, and maintenance services.
