Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Attunity Releases Enhanced SOA Capabilities
Features CDC Support For SQL Server, Enhanced XML Database Services And A CDC Accelerator For SSIS

Attunity  announced  the release of Attunity Integration Suite Release 5 (AIS 5.0). With this release, customers will benefit from new and improved features across all three product-lines that make up the suite (Attunity Connect, Attunity Federate and Attunity Stream). These improvements include support for more data sources, enhanced Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) capabilities, new integrated functionality for SQL Server and SSIS, and greater management facilities for large-scale deployments.

Attunity Stream is Attunity’s change data capture (CDC) product, allowing the efficient capture and transfer of only the changed data items from a source database to a target database. AIS 5.0 introduces several new and enhanced CDC agents for Attunity Stream, including CDC for SQL Server. Now organizations using SQL Server 2000, can enjoy the same enterprise-class, efficient and real-time data movement capabilities that were previously only available in other data environments, resulting in dramatically improved time-usage of ever decreasing batch windows.

AIS 5.0 also introduces the industry’s first and only CDC Accelerator for SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS), allowing the automatic and rapid creation of efficient and real-time ETL (extract, transform and load) solutions, leveraging SSIS ETL capabilities and Attunity Stream’s CDC technology.

Other AIS 5.0 additions to Attunity Stream include support for Adabas running on OpenVMS, and for DB2/400 with support for System Managed Journals, both again enabling the capture and movement of only the changes made in either of these source database systems.

Attunity Connect is Attunity’s leading data access, integration and data-adapter product. AIS 5.0 provides Attunity Connect with two new adapters to queuing systems, including the CICS Queue on the mainframe and Tuxedo Queue on open systems. It also includes support for JCA 1.5 as a standard interface to any Attunity adapter, supporting advanced integration features such an inbound messaging.

Attunity Federate is Attunity’s advanced Enterprise Information Integration (EII) product. AIS 5.0 introduces new facilities in Attunity Federate to enhance distributed query processing and optimization across heterogeneous data sources, as well as support for Oracle Hints for data access and federation.

AIS 5.0 also features significant enhancements made to support Service Oriented Architectures (SOA). For example, AIS 5.0 now offers advanced XML Database Services that support update and insert operations for all data sources, in addition to the read operations available previously. Development of these data services is achieved without any coding, as Attunity Connect automatically generates virtual services based on user configuration and metadata.
