In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

'Linux Is a Hoax' - Linus Torvalds (Well, Not Quite...)

[the following is a witty posting that's presently viewable at Slashdot.org]

"September 19, 2003

Torvalds Announces Linux "A Hoax"

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- In a shocking announcement Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system kernel, revealed that the wildly successful Linux was "an elaborate hoax."

"Alan [Cox] and I just made it up," said Torvalds, "We wanted to have our own OS but didn't know how to make one and neither of us could afford a subscription to MSDN. It's been real hell faking all of those patch submissions for the last twelve years. I'm just glad it's over."

Torvalds went on to describe how Linux has been assembled over the years from stolen code, mostly from SCO's Unixware server operating system. Large portions were also lifted from Novell's NetWare 3 and Microsoft's Altair BASIC.

When asked if he felt any remorse over the affair he replied, "Sorta. But everybody does it. The KDE project is mostly de-compiled Windows code and Eric Raymond copied 'The Cathedral and the Bazaar' verbatim from an MIT enrollment brochure. Most open-source developers are just coders who couldn't hack it in the real world where everybody runs Windows."

Concluding his announcement Torvalds encouraged Linux users to "either purchase a legitimate license from SCO or install GNU HURD."

Alan Cox declined to comment."

Come on linus!
i just loved that pengien,that shell BASH,KDE.
And you linus, have to steal code.
You, linus should fell very gelty!
This is what i have to say to linus.(a rasberry)

boomhower: I never claimed authorship to anything on my site other than the paragraphs on the page, *which I wrote personally*. If it looks similar, so what? It wasn't intentional. Do a search on the web for SCO and how many articles come up? How many are from different news sources, but say the same thing? It's called dissemination of information, not plagiarism as you are suggesting. My web site is attempting to catalog information from many sources just in case others haven't seen it. For your information, many who have visited have not the links or articles that I have linked on my site. I even got an e-mail from the "welovescoinformationminister" and they thanked me for linking to their site.

So before you charge me with plagiarism, a very serious accusation, go to school and learn about what plagiarism is exactly. You really make yourself look like an uneducated fool when you make such ridiculous comments.

You guys are reduced to pulling comments from Slashdot and pretending they're your own stories? That's sad!

"They were men from an educational background of such boredom that it killed six out of thirteen persons before the age of eleven."

LMAO - very funny! When you look at the education background of Darth McBrood it is not impressive. Most MBA's, in my humble opinion, are overpaid and underworked. I'd love to see these guys lose their jobs and have to work a retail job to put food on the table (like I once did). It really humbles you. I think it's time this happened, because the pursuit of money that I am witnessing by these executives is not only sickening, but quite distasteful.

True Secret History of Societe Commercial du On-dit (SCO)

It was long suspected, and has now been confirmed by Darth McBride's ghostwritten autobiography and DIY classic "Eunuchs Made Simple", precisely how Darth McBride was readied for his position as CEO.

This book - now given away free with every purchase of an item from the SCO EunuchsWear lingerie range for the genitally-challenged male - also sheds much-appreciated light on the infamous Fifteen Hundred Letters incident, when Darth McBride, furious at his brand's cool reception by customers, mass-mailed potential customers with the threat to raid their premises with the Eunuchs Unleashed* legal squad, to remove various components alleged to infringe his copyrights and contracts.

*Eunuchs Unleashed - The lawyer-fanatics of the SCO Emperor. They were men from an educational background of such boredom that it killed six out of thirteen persons before the age of eleven. Their legal training emphasized ruthlessness and a near-suicidal disregard for personal integrity. They were taught from infancy to use stupidity as a standard weapon, weakening opponents with boredom.

(With profuse apologies to Frank Herbert.)
