In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Bye Bye 9.1, Mandrake Linux Moves to v 9.2
Bye Bye 9.1, Mandrake Linux Moves to v 9.2

"Born on the Internet" in late 1998, MandrakeSoft has announced from its joint headquarters in the U.S.A. and in France that it's already gearing up to accept pre-orders from Mandrake fans wanting to get a jump on the rest of the Linux enterprise world by "pre-ordering" version 9.2, which is due out later this month.

Allegedly "one of the most eagerly awaited Linux systems" (according to Mandrakesoft itself!) v 9.2 boasts new features, such as the improved "MandrakeGalaxy" look and feel, updated Mandrake tools, the new OpenOffice.org office suite, and the latest Mozilla. Anyone ordering now, the company says, will be among the first to receive Mandrake Linux 9.2 when it begins shipping.

Nonetheless you still get a 404 error if you try surfing over to http://www.mandrakesoft.com/products/92:

Reader Feedback: Page 1 of 1

Ram said there were no Mandrake release candidates, but there are:
http://www.rpmfind.net/BitTorrent/
http://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake-iso/ (may be empty close to final release time)

where is a detailed announcement describing new features and package/kernel versions and stuff?

Hey ram!
9.2 has been around for some time as betas.
The Mandrake community does months of testing before release to the great general public.
mac586 is right. You can preorder using that url.
Club members get priority, and a discount.

I have seen both Mandrake9.2_rc1 and rc2 on the front page of mandrake-linux.com. I am excited to see this release :)

Anyone seen release candidates for this release? Usually there are some to download and give feedback. This time, it seems that there are none.

Try this link to find the preorder page at MandrakeStore.com:

In their announce, they didn't announce that Mandrake 9.2 was available: they just opened their pre-order page at their online shop (MandrakeStore.com)! And their website (http://www.mandrakelinux.com) adds: "(...) Mandrake Linux 9.2 will be released within the next few weeks.(...)"
