Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Rally Software and Tasktop Technologies Partner to Extend Rally's Support for the Eclipse IDE
Rally Builds on Existing Eclipse Plug-In to Create a Seamless Environment for Developers and Testers Using Agile Software Develo

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and BOULDER, Colo., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Rally Software Development Corp., the leading on-demand provider of Agile software life cycle management solutions, and Tasktop Technologies, the company formed by the creators of the Mylar open source project, today announced a partnership to build Rally's next-generation of support for the growing number of developers and testers working within the Eclipse IDE.

"Rally's vision is to create a collaborative hub for Agile software development where each role can use their preferred tools to work together as an Agile team," said Zach Nies, VP of product development for Rally. "With their expertise in the Eclipse Mylar framework, Tasktop is well-positioned to help us deliver seamless integration between Rally's Agile life cycle management solution and the Eclipse IDE."

Building on the Mylar framework, Tasktop will provide seamless support for developers using Rally's Agile life cycle management tools to access their user stories, defects and tasks. Mylar's task-focused interaction technology has improved the way developers work. Current IDEs overload developers with tens of thousands of source code artifacts, meaning that team members often spend more time searching, scrolling and navigating than programming. Mylar enhances developer productivity by seamlessly integrating tasks into Eclipse and automatically managing the context of those tasks as developers work.

"To deliver on the full potential of Agile methods, users need integration between project management tools and the developers' workflow," states Mik Kersten, lead of the Mylar project (http://eclipse.org/mylar) and president and CTO of Tasktop Technologies. "Working together, Rally and Tasktop will provide a seamless linking of project tasks to source code artifacts by combining Rally's leading Agile tools with the productivity benefits of Mylar and the Eclipse IDE."

Rally and Eclipse are already closely integrated through Rally's Eclipse plug-in. Rally's partnership with Tasktop Technologies further extends that integration by leveraging the productivity-enhancing features of the Mylar project.
