Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Slangsoft Announces MIDP Release of iTID Platform Slangsoft Adds Java MIDP Compatibility to Bring the Power of Intelligent U

(December 17, Boston, MA) - Slangsoft announced today that its intelligent Text Input and Display Platform (iTID), long compatible with Standard, Enterprise, and Personal Java, is now compatible with the set of Java APIs that constitute the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP). The profile was developed by the Java Community Process and has been adopted by all the major cell phone, pager, and PDA makers. It is particularly well-suited for low-footprint wireless information appliances that typically have a 16 to 32 bit CPUs and 512K or less of memory for the Java platform and applications.

Makers of mobile information devices rely on Slangsoft’s software to intelligently link and match any type of user input, via cell phone keypad, pointing or pen device, or voice recognition via the functionality of the “midlets” running on the device. Slangsoft’s iTID Platform enables the midlet applications to transparently accept all types of input and accurately process the outcome without any changes to the product’s code base. The iTID Platform also supports complex states of input, such as the simultaneous input from phone keypads and voice commands, functionality that is key to ease of use of mobile handsets.

“The Java Community Process’s MIDP brings the power of Java to even the most constrained devices,” says Vadim Fux, Slangsoft Chief Architect. “We followed suit with our iTID Platform to bring the power of intelligent user interactivity to those same appliances. This promotes Slangsoft’s goal of fostering a more productive economy based on cost-efficient and easy to use mobile devices.”

About Slangsoft
Slangsoft is a software company that allows makers of cell phones, PDAs, set-top boxes, and other information appliances to create devices that are intuitive and easy to interact with whether by keyboard, voice commands, or simply reading text on a display. Slangsoft’s iTID Platform intelligently matches any type of user input (from keyboards, voice, touch screens, pen strokes, etc.) with text and other outcomes for applications ranging from basic dialling, messaging, and Web browsing to in-car navigation and product ordering via interactive television. Slangsoft-enabled information appliances cost less, have more application functionality and are easier and more enjoyable to use.
