Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Java Edition of Oracle9i Application Server Now Available
Java Edition of Oracle9i Application Server Now Available

(March 31, 2003) - Oracle9i Application Server Java Edition has just debuted. Oracle's new enterprise-class application server offering includes all of the technology needed for companies to quickly begin developing and deploying Java applications and Web services - at a highly competitive price. In addition, embedded licenses of Oracle9i Application Server Java Edition are available free of charge to ISVs, allowing partners to embed Oracle's advanced J2EE application server technology in their specialized solutions.

Companies can now purchase an integrated enterprise Java software package that includes both an application server and an integrated development environment (IDE) and offers complete development and deployment capabilities for transactional business applications, Web services, dynamic Web sites and e-commerce storefronts.

Oracle9i Application Server Java Edition includes Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE, a full-featured, production-level application server with advanced clustering; Oracle9i JDeveloper, a complete Java Integrated Development Environment (IDE); Oracle® HTTP Server for XML and Web services support; Oracle9iAS TopLink object-to-relational persistence software; and Oracle Enterprise Manager for end-to-end system management. Combined, these technologies offer enhanced developer productivity, end-to-end system management, and increased enterprise scalability. The advanced clustering featured in Oracle9i Application Server helps ensure reliability on low-cost hardware running Linux, Windows, or Unix.

Oracle9i Application Server Java Edition is immediately available for purchase or free download from Oracle Technology Network.

I'm currently using this product. What can I say, it's not very mature and I think that's refelcted in the price. Very buggy.

In this case you can it for FREE if you bundle it with your product. If you're selling a J2EE product this is a fantastic opportunity to target customer's who don't currently have an application server, or don't have the money for one.

I'll take ads like this anyday.

I believe that the price is very competitive indeed and includes licences for development tools and frameworks like TopLink. Looks like a bargain to me at about 1/4th the price of BEA.

Happy to see advertisements if they help me save money.

Wait... thats not all. If you buy Oracle 9i application server we'll send you this CD case with your order.

How much would you pay for 9i and the free CD case. No not 1,000,000.... we're practicaly giving it away for 19.95$

Seriously though. You need to try harder to make things not be obvious advertisments.
