Microsoft has been studying Linux "extensively"

"To a certain extent, Microsoft's decision to form a division focused on the OS core was driven by its main rival, Linux, said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, a consulting firm specializing on emerging technologies, in San Jose, California. 'They have been studying Linux extensively. Part of their study has been on how Linux has been able to maintain a high level of consistency in the kernel while groups around it maintain maximum flexibility,' Enderle said."

UK: "Yes, Linux is viable as part of business IT strategy" says CIO Jury

"Following recent desktop Linux trials announced by the NHS [the UK's National Health Service] and the [UK] government and recent IDC figures that showed the open source software continues to eat into the Unix market on the server side, we asked our panel if Linux is ready for the enterprise. Two-thirds of our 12-man CIO Jury said Linux is now a viable part of the IT strategy."

"Making broadband-based telephone calls using LindowsOS 4.5 is free"

"Lindows.com on Tuesday shipped the newest version of its Linux operating system, LindowsOS 4.5, which lets users place free computer-based telephone calls. LindowsOS 4.5 includes integrated Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) technology that provides free global calling over broadband Internet connections, said Lindows.com. Among the calling features tucked into the new OS are four-way conferencing and unique phone numbers for each LindowsOS-equipped computer. Calls can be placed to any SIP-enabled computer or phone."
