Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

In many cases, the end of the year gives you time to step back and take stock of the last 12 months. This is when many of us take a hard look at what worked and what did not, complete performance reviews, and formulate plans for the coming year. For me, it is all of those things plus a time when I u...

Fujitsu Proves Business Process Interoperability for Auto Industry
Fujitsu Proves Business Process Interoperability for Auto Industry

(August 21, 2002) - Fujitsu Software Corporation has successfully shown Business Process interoperability utilizing B2B specifications that are being developed to meet the needs of the North American automotive industry. The demonstration executed a business process scenario developed by the STAR consortium based on the OAGI's Business Object Document (BOD) specification for interoperable XML messages and the ebXML framework. The Open Applications Group Inc. (OAGI) is the largest publisher of XML-based business messages in the world.

During the demonstration, conducted recently at the OAGI technical meeting in Detroit, Fujitsu and Sybase, Inc exchanged messages, implementing STAR's Parts Order scenario using Open Application Group Interoperability Specification (OAGIS) BODs and ebXML specifications. This test proved that Fujitsu's Interstage CollaborationRing can communicate with other ebXML products, using STAR's BODs and business scenarios implemented with ebXML Business Process Specification Schema (BPSS), the ebXML Collaboration Protocol Profile and Agreement (CPPA), and ebXML Message Service (ebMS).

The OAGI specification has been adopted by the Auto Industry Action Group (AIAG), STAR and Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) consortiums for next generation business language and data messaging architecture. These organizations have formed collaborative initiatives with OAGI to design XML-based messages conforming to and extending the OAGI BOD library for e-business and application integration, and the ebXML framework for B2B.

The Fujitsu products used in this interoperability test were Interstage Application Server V 5.0 and Interstage CollaborationRing V 5.0. The product includes ebXML implementations. Interstage Application Server is a J2EE1.3/CORBA compliant application server that supports ebXML, SOAP, UDDI, WSDL and other current standards. These products are available today for Windows in North America, and will be available by the end of August for Solaris. Both products are already available in Japan. The Sybase products used were Sybase® Web Services Integrator 2.5 and Sybase EAServer 4.1. Sybase EAServer integrates J2EE 1.3, secure enterprise Web services, as well as C/C++, PowerBuilder® and COM, for a complete e-business application framework. For more information, see www.fujitsu.com/ or www.sybase.com/easerver.
